Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation provides administrative and technical assistance to member community foundations.  Also known as a geographic component fund, a member community foundation is a smart way for a community to support local charities with out taking on the cost and administrative burden of managing an endowment.

 While retaining its own identity, a member foundation benefits from reduced administrative expenses and had access to the professional staff, fund management and investment expertise of the Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation.

The Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation:

• Develops and supports existing and new member relationships as appropriate to the needs of communities in the counties of Southeastern Illinois.
• Reduces member community foundations’ expenses in their efforts to extend philanthropy for the betterment of their community.
• Provides charitable giving expertise and other donor services to members.
• Conscientiously stewards funds to ensure perpetual returns.
• Sustains the personal recognition, involvement and flexibility donors deserve in establishing a charitable fund.
• Fosters philanthropic leadership. 
   
  Our Member Foundations:
  
• Are governed by a community leadership board, representative of the community it serves.  This board ensures that local gifts are used for the exclusive benefit of the specified geographic area and is accountable to the community it serves.
• Build and maintain a permanent endowment to meet community needs by connecting with donors and attracting gifts from individuals, families, businesses, private foundations, charitable trusts, civic associations and nonprofit organizations.
• Make broad-based and strategic grants to the nonprofit community.
• Provide community leadership including leveraging resources and convening organization to solve problems. -Serve the nonprofit community as a resource for information and best practices.
• Identify key community issues and develop innovating approaches to deal with them.
